One of the best ways to understand a stone is to see how it performs in real homes. We have had the opportunity to photograph a number of completed projects, while some project images have been kindly shared with us by our customers and industry partners. Together, they offer a great insight into how our surfaces are used across different designs. At YDL Stone, we work with homeowners, designers and builders across Australia who choose our surfaces for kitchens, bathrooms and living spaces that need to look beautiful and work hard every day.
In this article, we look closely at a selection of completed projects. Each one shows how the right material can shape the feel of a home, including everything from calm family kitchens to bold statement islands. You can also follow more of these stories on the YDL Stone Australia Instagram, where we are constantly posting new projects and exciting news of what we’re working on.
What Projects Are Most Common For YDL Stone?
When we look at the work that comes through our showrooms and warehouses, as well as many of our finished projects, the clear majority of use cases centre on the kitchen. Benchtops and islands are by far the most frequent request, with natural quartzites such as Taj Mahal or Arctic Ocean being especially popular as of late.

A large number of these kitchens also carry the same surface up the wall as a continuous splashback. We see this approach time and again in current kitchen trends because it creates a clean, cohesive look and removes the need for traditional tiling behind the cooktop or sink. Matching benchtop and splashback combinations have become a regular feature in both renovations and new builds that we supply, though it should be noted that splashback suitability and clearances need to be checked for the chosen surface and cooktop before a decision is made. Splashbacks are fantastic additions, but they may not work for every possible project.
Bathrooms form the next most common category. Vanities, shower surrounds and full bathroom surfaces often use the same stones selected for the kitchen, helping the home feel consistent from one space to the next. In many projects the material continues into the laundry and powder room as well.
We also supply designers and builders with a steady stream of stones for feature elements. Waterfall islands, statement bar areas and selected feature walls allow bolder stones to become the focal point while quieter surfaces handle the more practical zones.

Overall, the most typical project we work on is a residential kitchen that needs to look considered and perform well every day. Display homes, dual-occupancy dwellings and thoughtful renovations of existing family houses make up a large share of our work. These are the spaces where Australian homeowners want surfaces that feel beautiful, remain practical, and continue to look right for years to come.
Projects Our Stones Have Been Featured In

Elevating Spaces with Shadow Grey
Koala Kitchens completed a mid-century modern renovation that placed Shadow Grey from our Premium Range firmly at the centre of the design. The kitchen is relatively compact, so the choice of surface needed to enhance the sense of space rather than close it in. Soft grey tones and subtle movement help the room feel open and refined while still delivering a polished, considered finish.

Shadow Grey features a soft grey base with random brown-grey streaks that flow gently across the surface. The polished finish brings out a natural elegance without becoming overly dramatic. As a crystalline silica-free mineral surface it is low maintenance, scratch resistant and highly stain resistant, making it well suited to everyday kitchen use.
In this project the same stone was used for both the benchtops and the splashbacks. The continuous surface creates a cohesive look that feels calm and timeless. The soft, flowing veins add depth and warmth without overwhelming the mid-century lines of the cabinetry. The result is a kitchen that feels both stylish and highly practical for busy family life.

Rock Lodge Renovation with Ivory Travertine
In collaboration with Assembly Interiors, Mornington Peninsula Kitchens transformed a much-loved 20-year-old home into Rock Lodge, a calming retreat that blends earthy tones with refined design. The renovation focuses on creating a soft modern character that feels welcoming and grounded rather than stark or overly formal.
At the heart of the kitchen is Ivory Travertine from our Porcelain Range. This surface presents a warm creamy beige sand tone that captures the textural presence of weathered stone while remaining clean and contemporary. The matte finish supports a quiet, layered elegance that works especially well with mushroom-toned cabinetry, soft timbers and bronze accents.
Slimline shaker profiles add gentle movement without competing with the stone. Ivory Travertine continues through the laundry and powder room, giving the home a consistent sense of warmth and cohesion.

Because the surface is durable and low maintenance, it suits the practical needs of a busy family while still delivering understated luxury. The overall effect is a home that feels calm, connected and ready for everyday living.

Hayloft: A Contemporary Classic Transformed by Cloudy Grey
The Hayloft is a modern farmhouse with coastal charm. The design blends warmth and sophistication through careful material choices and a strong sense of flow between spaces. Natural light, mid-tone timbers and gentle textures all play a role in creating a relaxed yet elevated atmosphere.

Cloudy Grey, a crystalline silica-free surface with a polished finish, sits at the centre of this approach. It features a light grey neutral base adorned by random, subtle veins that add a touch of organic charm. The soft, understated patterning allows the stone to act as a quiet unifying element across the kitchen and bathrooms.
By running the same surface through key areas, the design achieves a seamless, cohesive look. Cloudy Grey supports the home’s versatility and flow without demanding attention. Its low-maintenance performance and refined appearance make it an ideal partner for a coastal-inspired farmhouse that needs to feel both practical and elegant.

Cumulus Cloud at the Omaxe Homes Display
At the Omaxe Homes display, Cumulus Cloud demonstrates how a lighter, more open stone can lift a space without feeling overly cold or clinical, blending the more minimalist looks of the 2010s with the more earthy design principles of modern trends. The surface presents a tranquil, cloud-like pattern of swirling grey and white patterns floating across a light-toned base. Soft variations in neutral tones give each slab a sense of natural movement while remaining versatile across a wide range of design styles, and we feel the results truly speak for themselves.

The polished finish enhances the stone’s quiet luminosity, creating a serene atmosphere that works equally well in kitchens, bathrooms or living areas. Cumulus Cloud balances elegance with calm, offering both aesthetic appeal and everyday durability. In a display home setting it shows how a carefully chosen surface can set a soft, airy tone that feels inviting rather than formal.

Mahal Ivory Brings Timeless Elegance
This dual-occupancy home in Airport West blends warmth and individuality through a soft colour palette and carefully chosen accents. Engineered timber flooring in malt tones flows throughout the home, creating a seamless connection between spaces and supporting a cohesive, lived-in feel.

In the kitchen, Mahal Ivory is used for the benchtops. Inspired by the natural marble of the Taj Mahal, this crystalline silica-free surface features a blend of golden, cream and brown hues with pristine streak patterns that flow across the slab. The intricate movement evokes undulating desert dunes, creating an ambiance that feels both luxurious and serene.

The stone is paired with muted grey-green cabinetry from Polytec. A Steccawood-clad island adds texture, while fluted glass overhead cabinetry introduces light and further depth. Together these elements produce a modern yet timeless result. Mahal Ivory brings warmth and sophistication without overpowering the softer tones of the cabinetry and flooring, making it an excellent choice for a home that values both style and everyday comfort.

Arctic Ocean Quartzite as a Statement Waterfall Island
This kitchen places Arctic Ocean Quartzite firmly at the centre of the design through a striking waterfall island. The continuous application of the stone allows its bold veining and natural movement to become the defining feature of the room.

Quarried in Canada, Arctic Ocean quartzite displays swirling diagonal streams of crisp white, soft grey and deep black that flow naturally across the surface. The intricate layering creates a dynamic sense of movement, while the honed finish brings out the stone’s textured character without glare. The result is a sophisticated balance of rugged durability and refined beauty.

Paired with soft oyster grey cabinetry and warm timber flooring, the design achieves a refined and balanced aesthetic. Clean lines and minimal detailing allow the stone to remain the focus. The generous island enhances both functionality and visual impact, delivering a timeless contemporary kitchen in which Arctic Ocean Quartzite becomes the clear statement piece.
